Swift Current

First of all, we want to say thank you to all of those businesses here in Swift Current that donated to help us during our journey... Canadian Tire, Shoppers Drug Mart, Trail Campground for their friendliness and Westwind Motel for a nice room for the night. Everyone was very nice and receptive in this little town, agreeing that homelessness doesn't need to be that something needs to be done about it.

However, our hearts were crushed to learn that there isn't any services here for homeless people. That if they go to the Salvation army they will be rerouted to Moose Jaw... despite the fact that there isn't a huge homeless problem here we believe that even 5 or 6 beds just for those in need would be required. Maybe some meal program to make sure everyone gets a proper meal everyday could also be another solution. They help people to find housing, clothes and provide food with their food bank which is amazing for sure. But we believe that more needs to be done.

The Salvation army was very nice to help us with clothing and food, we met there wonderful people who try to help as much as they can. We've met an extraordinary gentleman who lived homeless for 3 weeks in order to understand what his clients were going through. He even said that sometimes ending up in the street is the easy solution, it seems to be the only one, the solution that brings liberty from all the pressure from society. Which makes us think that some ways we do things needs to change to alleviate the pressure society puts on people. Homelessness is a society problem, something pushed these people to refuse to deal with others.... that's where it needs to starts, to start on how we treat each other, on why people feel so alone that their only solution is to check out of society.

There is so much to say since the last post was a while ago due to difficulties with my app. We've visited many little communities since...
