Day 3 and Day 4: The elements are testing us.

On the third day we left Strathmore after packing some food, we are heading to Bassano which is a 3 days of walk. Margo hurt her knee yesterday making it harder for her to walk. On our way out of town, Adele from the local newspaper chased us to get a picture and talk with us.

The first part of the day was a bit slower due to the weight of the wagon and Margo was limping. We've stopped for lunch at Sharon and Denys a very nice couple that are still helping us right now, connecting us with people they know in the area. We sat and talked with them for 2 hours, left with some snacks, a full belly, cigarettes and a heart full of motivation.

The rest of the day nature was testing us with wind and many many hills to climb. We decided to stop after walking 25 km and found a secluded spot between some trees, trees are rare , very rare. We setup the tent and Margo made some macaroni and grilled cheese on our little stove. It was a hot day and a hot night, we weren't cold at all.

The next day wasn't so easy, Margo's knee was hurting more than before, I was worried and she was frustrated. We had to stop often, slow down our walk which was discouraging since we knew the only spot to stop where we could use bathrooms and a place to plug our phon was at 31 km from our starting point.

And the hills... got bigger and bigger... the wind was facing us making the walk even harder. The last hill before our goal point was at least 2km long took us 40 minutes to climb it with one pulling the wagon and the other pushing it. But we've made it, we were so proud of ourselves. A nice native man gave us permission to put our tent behind the gas station and charged our phones for us. He was really nice and very welcoming.

We setup for the night, talked to Billy-Jo and her team on the phone. They will help us as much as they can. After we ate the cold sets in going to -5 during the night, the winds are so strong we can't light up our stove to get some heat because it blows the flames... too dangerous. The night was very long and frozen which doesn't help Margo's knee making her muscles stiff up.

After our live chat this morning, we started walking. After approximately 10km her knee gave out. She can't walk longer and need some rest, so we stoppedhoping that tomorrow will be easier.

Despite all this we kept going, not getting discouraged and helping each other. Out here there is the 2 of us against nature and sometimes it decides to test you to know how much determination you have.

Have a good night everyone!!!
